The day will consist of five distinct sessions; half of each session will be a presentation, and the other half will be spent workshopping participants’ projects and businesses in small groups. The sessions are intended to be useful to people at all stages of their professional life, whether launching a small business, embarking on a major project, or taking their career to the next level.
8:00-8:20 Introduction and Welcome
8:20 to 9:20 Going from Vision to Plan, with Jennifer Ruwart. This section will address: What are you good at? What do you want to offer? Who is your market? Creating a niche.
9:25 to 10:30 Legal 101: Legal Issues for Starting Your Own Business, with Amy Blumenberg. Session includes: Choosing a legal entity, risk and liability hot spots, and key contract terms.
10:35 to 11:45 Happiness and Valuing Your Dream, with Helen McConnell. Session addresses: How do you determine the true value of what you are offering? Incorporating happiness into your plan.
12 to 1 Lunch break and yoga option. Yoga with Ellee Thalheimer
1:10 to 1:15 Morning Recap
1:15 to 2:30 Getting the Word Out! Marketing Your Work, with Elly Blue. This session includes: Creating an outreach strategy, building relationships with media, and crafting a pitch.
2:40 to 4:00 Building Relationships, with Jennifer Ruwart and Katrina DiCarlo. Session covers: Dealing with customers, dealing with employees, and dealing with vendors.
4:05 to end Group Discussion, with special guest Mia Birk, President of Alta Planning + Design.
