Hello Ladies of Portland Society, and Friends:

Our next meeting is coming up! Here are the details:

Wednesday, February 1st, 8:00 am
April Streeter’s home at 2129 SE Ladd, Portland 97214
One block from Palio’s – bright yellow house.
Coffee and snacks provided by Portland Pedal Power

You don’t need to be a Portland Society member to attend! If you would like to join, membership is a mere $10 per month and can be paid either at the meeting or online.

And, now, a note from our presenter, Helen McConnell, Life Coach/EFT Practitioner:

Do you ever worry about money?
Do you think money is evil?
Are you afraid to start your own business?
Do you ever self-sabotage (get to the brink of success, only to do something to stop yourself)?
Do you know how to delineate between your business and your personal life (the dilemma of the self-employed), and why that’s critical to your success?

At the next Portland Society Meeting, I will be making a presentation, and leading a discussion on “Prosperity and Your Money Mindset.”
You will discover how you TRULY feel about success.
You will learn how unconscious limiting beliefs can hold you back from achieving what you THINK you want to achieve – in ALL areas of our lives.
This is NOT just about money, although we will certainly talk about the almighty dollar!
This is about YOU, YOUR BUSINESS OR WORK, YOUR RELATIONSHIPS, AND YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO CREATING A BETTER WORLD.

I will SHOW you how your mind works – FOR you and AGAINST you.
I’ll reveal some steps you can take to control your “monkey mind.”
And I will help you shine a light on your life path.

The Portland Society Fund is proud to announce three recipients of its yearly grant program, under the stewardship of Umbrella.

In a pool of talented applicants, the winners who emerged are Michelle Week, Laura Koch, and Lindsay Caron Epstein. Each will receive a grant toward education to develop their leadership and professional skills to promote vibrant, welcoming public spaces and active transportation in Portland.

Michelle Week will use the grant funds to pursue her interests in sustainable retrofitting, land use segregation, and food security, as well as her belief in the power of education and a personal commitment to a sustainable lifestyle. She is involved in several areas of advocacy for active transportation in Portland. As the president of what will become a food coop grocery in Camas, Washington, she intends to also bring communities elsewhere in the region to follow the model exemplified by Portland. Michelle will use the Portland Society Fund award to continue her coursework towards a certificate through University of Oregon’s Sustainability Leadership Program.

Laura Koch is dedicated to making bicycle transportation more accessible to underrepresented communities and communities of color in Portland. She has worked for the Community Cycling Center since 2008, is helping to shift the CCC from a community service model to a community change model. In order to continue her momentum toward collaborative advocacy, she will attend the Winning Campaigns training offered by the Alliance for Bicycling and Walking in Seattle, Washington.

Lindsay Caron Epstein is a student at Portland State University who dedicates much of her time and her studies to promoting sustainability and active lifestyles through media. Through her work with PSU’s Institute of Sustainable Solutions, she develops creative, collaborative uses of media to spread messages of sustainability. Her award will allow her to take a course in graphic design and desktop publishing software that will directly impact her effectiveness, and that will also allow her to self-publish a zine that she has written about the experience of being a first time bike commuter.

To meet these fabulous women and hear them talk about their passions, come to The Portland Society Benefit Gala on May 26, at Madison’s Grill (6-9pm, 1125 SE Madison St, Portland). The entire community is invited to join us in this celebration of bicycling and entrepreneurial women. The Gala’s keynote speaker is Oregon Secretary of State Kate Brown, a pioneering politician and environmental lawyer.  A silent auction will help raise additional funds for next year’s grant. Tickets are $5 in advance, $7 at the door.

Congratulations to the 2011 Portland Society Fund recipients!
